Maciej Gawronski is a Polish attorney-at-law, Managing Partner of GP Partners law firm. He practices law of new technologies for nearly thirty years. In 2021 Maciej received the M. Serzycki Award from the President of the Polish Office for Personal Data Protection (https://uodo.gov.pl/en/618/1218). Maciej is a recommended arbitrator of the Court of Arbitration at the Polish Chamber of Commerce.
Maciej was a consultant to the Article 29 Working Party on international transfers of personal data, expert of the European Commission on cloud computing contracts, contributor to some provisions of the GDPR (data portability, liability of sub-processors, electronic form).
Maciej edited the most popular in Poland book on data protection “RODO Przewodnik ze wzorami” (“Guide to the GDPR with Templates”) published in English as “Guide to the GDPR”, co-authored the bestselling „Jak pisać pisma procesowe i prowadzić komunikację w sporze czyli książeczka o pisaniu pism” („How to Communicate in a Dispute – The Little Book on Drafting Pleadings”) published in English, edited the study “Cloud Computing in the Polish Financial Sector. Regulations and Standards.” He also contributed to a number of other books, such as , “Guide to the Law on Anti-Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism”, “Meritum Data Protection” “Commentary to the Polish Law on Personal Data Protection”, the publication of the Polish Bank Association “Cloud Computing in the Financial Sector” and “Challenges of Banking IT” 2013-2021, as well as a number of other publications of the intersection of law and technology. He has advised on thousands of technology projects, including the full lifecycle of the largest Polish IT implementation. He has taught cloud computing law at postgraduate courses at the Warsaw School of Economics, data protection at Lazarski University. Maciej has represented clients in billion-dollar disputes before Polish courts, national arbitration courts, and international arbitration tribunals. Maciej is also the co-developer of the Good Data Protection Standard data protection management system.
Since 2004 as a partner Maciej has managed teams of lawyers, in 2008 he founded the Polish offices of Bird & Bird law firm where he served as managing partner until 2016. In 2017 he founded the independent law firm Gawronski & Partners, whose current name is GP Partners.
