David W. Centner is a member of Clark Hill’s Litigation Practice Group. David works out of the Grand Rapids, Michigan, office where he specializes in commercial litigation, including complex commercial disputes, business torts, and creditor’s rights.
David was graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Indiana University-Maurer School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana.
David served on the Executive Committee of the Litigation Section Council of the State Bar of Michigan from 2008 to 2012, including serving as Chair during the 2011-2012 term when he led that 2,100 member organization. From 2005 to 2011, he served on the State Bar of Michigan Annual Meeting Committee. Since 2006, David has served on the Hillman Advocacy Program Steering Committee, a trial advocacy program sponsored by the Federal Bar Association and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, including serving on the faculty, and is Chair of the nationally recognized program for 2015/16 and 2016/17. He is a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, and the State Bar of Michigan. David is admitted to practice before all Michigan state courts, the United States District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Michigan, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. David has also handled arbitration matters before the American Arbitration Association, the National Association of Securities Dealers, the National Arbitration Forum, and the World Intellectual Property Organization. Since 2005, David has been a member of the Branch Board of Directors of the David D. Hunting YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids and, as an Eagle Scout, he has been active in the Boy Scouts of America.
Each year since 2012, David has been named a Michigan Super Lawyer by Law & Politics magazine, a consumer guide to outstanding lawyers based on a multi-step selection process including a survey and peer review. In addition, David was named Legal Professional of the Year by NALS of West Michigan in 2008.
