Joined Dutch Customs in 1979. Appointed as Lawyer (Inspector) in 1981 at Amsterdam Airport (Schiphol), in charge of Headquarters Technical Team.

Appointed Deputy Head of Customs at Amsterdam Airport in 1982.

 

Joined Wisselink & Co, Tax Lawyers, Amsterdam, in 1983, as Tax Lawyer specialised in customs, excises and VAT. After merger of the firm with KPMG’s Dutch Tax Law Firm (KPMG Meijburg & Co) in 1988, was made partner 1 January 1993, based in Amsterdam. Developed Trade and Customs Law service line. Managed team of 15-20 Customs Lawyers and Specialists.

 

Founding member of KPMG’s European Customs Network. Founder of KPMG European Customs Practice in 1995 and its first chairman. Founder of KPMG’s Global Trade and Customs Practice; chairman from 1998 till 2001. Member of KPMG Trade and Customs Practice Global Lead Group.

 

KPMG representative in Multilateral Trade Committee of the Dutch Employers organisation (VNO).

 

Retired from KPMG on 1 October 2006.

 

Co-founder of McMan & Co, International Trade Lawyers in 2006. Lead trade and customs specialist. Currently managing partner of McMan Ooijevaar, international trade and customs specialists.

 

Member of International Fiscal Association (IFA).

Member of International Bar Association (IBA); Officer of the International Trade and Customs Committee.

Contributing writer to Kluwer’s “European Taxation, Highlights and Insights” and various other publications including “International Tax Review”.

 

Clients are international companies in Europe, the USA, Canada, Latin America and Asia.

Conducts litigation before administrative, tax and customs courts as well as the Court of Justice of the EU. Represents clients before Dutch and other EU customs administrations.

Successfully advised and/or lead litigations for many major multinational companies in some of the largest cases in diverse sectors as High-Tech and consumer electronics, healthcare products, industrial products, footwear, sport goods, alcohol and other excise products.

Almost four decades advising experience covers a wide range of international trade regulation, customs law, excise duties and import/export VAT law.
