Having spent over 25 years at top tier full-service firms on Bay Street, May has established a strong reputation in brand protection and enforcement, including a specialty practice in anti-counterfeiting. While her practice spans all major industries, she has had a particular focus on retail, travel, fashion, and food— which mirror her own interests and make her job particularly rewarding.
May’s litigation experience includes patent, trademark and copyright infringement cases, as well as expungement and injunction cases in the federal and provincial courts in Canada. She has received many awards and recognition for her legal expertise including being recognized as one of the Top 250 Women in IP (globally) and one of the Top 500 Lawyers in Canada. Recently she was ranked #3 in the “Top 10 Canadian IP Lawyers Defining 2023 Legal Landscape”.
While enjoying a reputation as a “fearless” advocate, May’s goal is to arrive at the best business solution for her clients, which is often not going to be achieved through protracted litigation. She prides herself on finding creative solutions to complex problems and having a deeper understanding of the underlying goals of her clients, derived from nurturing long-term relationships.
