We also have a substantial client base overseas and a commensurate network of professional relationships in literally every IP functioning jurisdiction worldwide.  The firm believes that its experience in meeting the day to day needs of its direct domestic clients provides the best possible background for understanding the issues faced by its overseas clients and advising on European prosecution and enforcement issues with a strong appreciation of their commercial priorities.  Advice from the firm is therefore given from the standpoint of commercial as well as technological and legal awareness.

Expertise within the firm covers an extensive range of technologies, from electronic engineering and mechanical sciences, through to chemistry and biotechnology, and our team includes specialists in trade mark prosecution and enforcement. Litigation specialists also form an integral part of the firm's professional base.

David graduated from Liverpool University in 1986 with a degree in electronic engineering having specialised in the areas of optoelectronic devices, telecommunications, and the design and fabrication of semiconductor devices and in particular those involving VLSI. While he has carried this speciality through into his patents practice, he has also developed expertise in further technical fields such as holographic/diffractive security devices, and in the field of hydrocarbon extraction in particular focussing on flow-rate monitoring/restriction, completion arrangements/systems, and packer/seal design. David is a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney but also has broad experience in the handling of trade mark applications and related disputes and is a Registered Trade Mark Attorney.

David is a contributor to a variety of publications including Patents Throughout the World, and Designs and Utility Models Throughout the World and is currently a contributor to, and joint editor of, the European Patents Sourcefinder - a publication from the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents summarising and cross-referencing EPO Board of Appeal case law. David became a partner in the firm in 1997.
