Partner Alexis Cirel Co-Authors Article Examining Complex Issue of Insurance Coverage in Surrogacy

Alexis Cirel, the Founding Partner and Chair of the Fertility Law Group, has been published in the Spring 2023 issue of Seedling Quarterly, the official newsletter of the Society for Ethics in Egg Donation and Surrogacy (SEEDS). The featured article, “Covering Medical Expenses Unrelated to a Pregnancy? The Pros and Cons for Intended Parents,” addresses a heretofore unanswered question of whether intended parents in a surrogacy arrangement should be obligated to pay for the surrogate’s non-surrogacy related out-of-pocket medical expenses where such expenses would have been covered by her existing health insurance but for concurrent, surrogate-friendly insurance purchased for the journey.

Alexis co-wrote the piece with California-based fertility law attorney, Chris Jackson, Esq., of Shorebreak Fertility Law. The two also serve together as co-chairs of the Legal Ethics Committee for SEEDS.
