IR Global, the world’s largest exclusive network of advisory firms is delighted to introduce that Asif A. Hosein-Shah has joined IR as our exclusive Maritime Law member in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago

Mr. Asif Hosein-Shah is an Attorney-at-Law who practices all areas of civil law focused mainly in the areas of admiralty / maritime law, corporate / commercial law and constitutional / public law and human rights law. He has been admitted to practice law in Trinidad and Tobago (2016) and Guyana (2016). In 2019, Asif was appointed as a Constitutional Law Tutor at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus.

He has been in active litigation practice since 2016 and has worked on various complex admiralty / maritime, commercial, civil, constitutional, employment / labour and family matters before the Court of Appeal, High Court, Industrial Court and Family Court of Trinidad and Tobago and the High Court of Guyana. In 2022 and 2023, Asif appeared as Counsel at the Commission of Enquiry into an offshore incident at Paria Fuel Trading Company Limited involving five (5) divers, four (4) of whom tragically lost their lives.

Asif holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) with first class honours from the University of the West Indies (2014), a Legal Education Certificate (LEC), graduating on the Principal’s Roll of Honour, from the Council of Legal Education, the Hugh Wooding Law School (2016) and a Certificate of Qualification (CQ) from the National Committee of Accreditation, Federation of Law Societies of Canada (2019). Asif was also awarded a Mediation Training Certificate at the Hugh Wooding Law School and won the Book Specialist’s Prize (Best Overall Performance: Academic and Extra-curricular), the Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh Prize (Best Performance in the Human Rights Specialist Law Clinic) and the Fitzwilliam Stone, Furness-Smith and Morgan Prize (Best Performance in Civil Law, Procedure and Practice). He has also served as President of the Law Society of the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, and numerous positions on the University of the West Indies Inter-Campus Guild of Students and St. Augustine Campus Guild Council.

Asif has been involved in youth advocacy programs and several outreach programs in aid of helping the less fortunate and disabled persons. Asif is particularly proud of his time as a delegate and Trainer at the Model United Nations (2012-2019) where his primary focus was inspiring interest in youth advocacy and international human rights among hundreds of secondary and university students throughout several Caribbean territories.
