Maparajuba – Corporate Social Responsibility at IR Global

At IR Global, we are driven to make a meaningful impact and protect the rights of nature. We believe that the best way to do this is by supporting those on the ground who dedicate their lives to land & human rights.

In 2023, we have offset the environmental footprint from our conferences by donating a percentage from each ticket purchased to the Maparajuba Legal Collective in Para, Brazil. ‘Maparajuba Advocacia Popular na Amazônia’ is a self-governing, non-profit, legal collective which promotes, defends, and protects the rights of indigenous peoples and communities in the Amazon. The collective comprises of experts specialising in constitutional, environmental, land, ethnic, and international law.

Operating in the Brazilian Amazon, their work in the past year has been centred on supporting the Munduruku people of Plan Alto. This territory was the only land right application submitted and processed in Brazil during the Bolsonaro government. It is seen as a key battleground for the future of the Amazon Rainforest. The collective places a strong emphasis on the Baixo-Tapajós region in Western Pará – an area with increasing land disputes and where indigenous peoples who protect the forest face many threats.

A few words from Maparajuba…

“Thanks to the financial support from IR Global and its members, we have been able to continue assisting indigenous peoples and communities with their fundamental rights to life, education, health, and the guaranteed right to remain in their territory. This has also been achieved through the strengthening of new partnership networks, or through political-legal action in bodies of the Judiciary and even the executive Administration of the Brazilian State.”

IR Global will continue to support Maparajuba in 2024.
