Karan was born and raised in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. Karan was sworn in as a Lawyer in 2008 and began his career as a lawyer in Dordrecht. He practiced a general civil practice there. After completing his training as a lawyer, Karan's practice continued to grow and he increasingly focused his practice on contract law. Here Karan was employed to draft and review custom commercial contracts, but also to participate in contract negotiations, for example in the context of the purchase or sale of ships or the acquisition of companies. Much of Karan's practice at the time related to the maritime world and its affiliated suppliers. Much of the practice was conducted in English even then.

Some years later, Karan made the choice to move to Curaçao to further specialize and develop as a lawyer. Karan's practice here in Curaçao focuses on corporate law in the broadest sense of the word. For example, Karan advises entrepreneurs on disputes in which directors' liability plays or may play a role, but also in the context of shareholder disputes, takeovers and restructuring of companies. In addition, Karan assists entrepreneurs who approach him with questions about contractual matters. This may involve assessing already existing commercial contracts, but also attending contract negotiations or drafting such contracts 'from scratch'. Furthermore, Karan litigates with some regularity in Curacao, but also on the other islands that fall within the scope of the Common Court of Justice here. The legal proceedings Karan handles are often of a corporate, contract or general civil nature.

Besides practicing law, Karan is a guest lecturer at the University of Curacao. There he teaches various civil subjects including (in-depth) Business Law and Contract Law. Not only being a lawyer, but also teaching is a deep-rooted passion of Karan. Even before his graduation, Karan was already teaching regularly and still does so with great pleasure. In this way Karan tries to contribute to the development of the new generation of jurists and lawyers on and also outside of Curacao.

In his spare time Karan enjoys the beautiful things in life. For Karan these include traveling to faraway and often diverse destinations, but Karan can also enjoy a nice dinner and drinks with good friends, preferably at a sunny location.
