Eduardo Benavides is the managing partner and head of the international practice of Berninzon & Benavides, one of the leading international business law firms in Peru. His areas of practice are International Transactions, Mergers and Acquisitions, Corporate Law and Foreign Investment, as well as International Arbitration.
During a period of 10 years, he was the General Counsel and Vice-President of BASF in Peru and international executive of the BASF Group, working in 5 different countries.
He has represented in Peru Fortune 500 companies such as Coca-Cola, 3M, HBO, Bosch, Frankfurt Airport, Amazon, Google, Siemens, Nokia, Conagra, Parmalat, Sempra Energy, Lufthansa, CH2M Hill, Liberty Media, Ericsson, Sumitomo, CGT and ThyssenKrupp.
Eduardo is the Past-Chair of EuroChambers in Peru, and has served in the Board of Directors of the German Peruvian Chamber of Commerce, the British Peruvian Chamber of Commerce, the Swiss Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Binational Chambers of Commerce, and in the Board of Directors and the Advisory Board of several multinational companies and non-profit organizations.
A former Chair of the Americas/Middle East Division of the Section of International Law of the American Bar Association (ABA) and Co-Chair of the Latin American and Caribbean Committee and the International Commercial Transactions, Franchising and Distribution Committee. He is also a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
Eduardo is a Contract Law Professor at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru’s Master in Business Law Program, and has been a Law Professor at the Law Schools of the Universidad de Lima, the San Marcos University and at the MBA Program of ESAN, University.
He has also been a frequent speaker at international conferences of the International Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the Lateinamerika Verein.
He is also a recognized Arbitrator and Expert Witness in International Arbitration.
Eduardo Benavides has been elected to the Who’s Who of Professionals and quoted Recommended Lawyer by Chambers and Partners, “Which Lawyer?” and “Cross Border M&A Handbook” and by Latin Lawyer 250.
He speaks fluent Spanish, English and German and has law degrees “Summa Cum Laude” from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru, Lima and the HSF in Heidelberg, Germany.
