Della M. Hill practices in the areas of commercial, corporate, M&A, licensing, tax, data privacy, and other transactional and business-related law for both domestic and international clients.
Della has a particular focus on advising clients on the complex regulatory framework applicable to online retailers and other consumer-facing businesses. She provides guidance and support for compliance with U.S. state and federal laws relating to data privacy, e-commerce, marketing and promotional campaigns including sweepstakes and contests, as well as social media content, endorsements, influencer campaigns, and other highly regulated consumer-based business activities. She has made presentations in Europe on these and other topics for non-US emerging companies entering the U.S. market.
Representing a primarily European client base, Della’s sensitivity to differences between U.S. and non-U.S. legal frameworks enables her to guide non-U.S. clients through the unfamiliar or unexpected legal issues and hurdles arising in U.S. corporate and commercial transactions, and in operating a U.S. business generally.
Della is certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (CIPP/US). She co-authored the chapter “Best Practices for Cloud Privacy” in a book published by the American Bar Association entitled “Cloud 3.0: Drafting and Negotiating Cloud Computing Agreements” and was a contributor to an IR Global Publication entitled “The Future of Data Privacy”, in which she discussed the developing landscape of New York data privacy and security laws.
Della is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was an editor of the Virginia Journal of Social Policy and the Law. Della served as the judicial law clerk to the Presiding Judge of the Court of Criminal Appeals, the highest criminal court in the State of Texas. Before joining Dunning Rievman & MacDonald, Della was an associate, and then a partner, at MacDonald Weiss PLLC.
Della received her B.A. degree from the College of William and Mary. She spent a summer term studying in Bath, England, as well as a semester in Paris, France where she earned a Certificat de Langue et Civilisation Françaises (Niveau Superieur) from the Cours de Civilisation Française de la Sorbonne. After graduating from the College of William and Mary, Della taught English as a second language in two high schools near Bordeaux, France, a position she obtained through the Ministère de l’Éducation Nationale. Elle parle français.
