Barbara Schuijlenburg

HYS & Co. Advocaten is a medium-sized Utrecht office highly specialized in construction and real estate and related areas of law (such as corporate and energy law). This concerns everything that has to be developed, built, operated and transferred. From residential and commercial real estate, educational and healthcare institutions, to technical installations and area development. Sometimes it concerns a single aspect, such as a tender, planning, a construction or rental contract, but it can also cover a life phase or even the entire life cycle of a project, from initiation and financing to delivery and operation afterwards. Our staff have all gained many years of expertise, which is widely made available in the execution of each assignment. Our office has both an advisory and litigation practice. We consider litigation as a last resort. Our work is often aimed at preventing this by providing solution-oriented advice or drawing up clear contracts.

Barbara specialises in civil real estate law and company law. She advises housing corporations, investors and developers on the subject of contracting for residential building, redevelopment, maintenance, partnerships and agreements with municipalities. She also assists parties with real estate transactions, even by means of a share transfer. 

Barbara benefits from her experience in the legal profession, in business and some longer interim assignments with housing corporations. Consequently, the advice she gives is pragmatic, with a keen eye for the commercial interest and without losing sight of legal reality.

In 2006, Barbara completed her post-doctoral specialist training in Company and Business Law at the Grotius Academy and in 2020 a procurement law programme for lawyers at the VU. She is a member of the association Dutch Women In Real Estate (DWIRE). She loves living in Amsterdam with her family and in their free time they enjoy the dunes, the beach, woods and mountains.

In the jurisdictions register of the Netherlands Bar Association, Barbara has entered the following principal fields of law:

• Real estate law (building law)

On account of this registration, every year she is obliged to attain ten training points in each registered principal field of law in accordance with the standards of the Netherlands Bar Association.
